Independent Day 

India become free from the British rule on 15th August 1947 and the first Prime Minister of Independent India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the national flag at the Lahori Gate of Red Fort in New Delhi. The incumbent Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru customarily raises the flag and gives an address to the nation. 
 

On August 15, 1947 India had achieved Independence after years of struggle and Independence Day is annually celebrated on 15th August, as a national holiday in India.  The day when the provisions of Indian Independence Act 1947 as passed by the British Parliament. The British India was divided along religion lines into the dominions of India and Pakistan. 
The displacement of nearly 15 million people due to religious violence.
